QuidditchUK is the national governing body for the sport of quidditch in the UK. We aim to create and maintain an environment of healthy competition and a community that values inclusivity, whilst furthering the sport of quidditch throughout the country and the world. And as for quidditch itself? No, we can’t fly. We have different levels of interest in Harry Potter and we won’t mind if you haven’t read the books or seen the films. Nor will we mind if you love them and have a deathly hallows tattoo. Quidditch stands by itself as a thriving sport, and is unique in its combination of tactical play, physicality, and gender inclusivity. You can have up to twenty one people on your roster, but there are seven active players at all times: a keeper (the goalie), three chasers (the ones who score the hoops and get the points with the quaffle), two beaters (the ones who have the bludgers and control the dodgeball element of the game) and the seeker (the one who chases the snitch). And the snitch? Well, the snitch is a tennis ball in a yellow sock tucked into the back of the snitch runner’s shorts, and the snitch runner has to prevent the seekers from getting the snitch.
