QuidditchUK Executive Management 2021

QUK's January 2022 Update

Executive

We're trialling this idea to help players get a better understanding of what UK quidditch's national governing body (that's us!) do month-to-month. These are intended to be more formal than our newsletter, serving as a monthly digest of our weekly executive minutes. Like this idea? Hate it? Thoroughly ambivalent? Let us know!

Presidential

We've continued working with the International Quidditch Association, US Quidditch, and other national governing bodies about potentially changing the spot's name. We'll continue to keep the community updated as the topic and its implications are explored, and are thankful to everyone who shared their initial thoughts on USQ's questions as part of our member survey over the winter break.

Clubs

The transfer window closed and movements between clubs (nationally and internationally) are being processed. Our wonderful expansion managers are working with interested parties on starting new clubs across the UK.

Events

The EQC Qualifier Tournament was unfortunately cancelled; the number of COVID cases in Wales relative to the number of teams at the tournament meant the risk was too high. Preparation for the second Northern and Southern University League fixtures is well underway though, with both set to go ahead.

We're also exploring an initiative to recognise the contributions members make to the sport, which we're excited to share with the community soon.

Gameplay

We are working toward implementing QUK's field testing programme for match officials, with the hope to have trial runs at fixtures later this season. We're also working with volunteers in Operations to explore if QuidditchUK is in a financial position to increase the amount referees and snitches are paid per game going forward.

Media

Most of our work at the moment is on upcoming announcements, including a big push for non-playing volunteers at fixtures. Stay tuned for more exciting news!

Open Roles: We're recruiting for several roles in the Media Department, with positions open to suit any level of time commitment. Check out our volunteering page for more details and do get in touch if you've any questions.

Operations

Invoices for our 2021 fixtures are all sorted and paid and referee payments have started to go out. As well as the ref payments mentioned previously, we've also worked with the Presidential team on more thorough budgeting for the 2022/23 season. We've been able to confirm that QUK is in a position to financially compensate its next President.

Volunteers

A new hub for our Conduct Policy has been finished and is soon to be released. This will include several guides on making the sport and community a more inclusive place. We're especially thankful to all the members who took time over the winter break to get involved with the consultation.

We also carried out the UK quidditch community members survey for the 2021/22 season, the results of which will be released shortly.

National Teams

Team Scotland ran its first training back in St Andrews and is gearing up for another early February.

Meanwhile, the Scouting Team are gearing up to cover the February fixtures, finding the best talent the university leagues have to offer.
