QuidditchUK 22/23 Season Structure Announced

Leagues

As we approach the end of the 2021/22 season, QuidditchUK are confident that we have delivered the return to play and slightly reduced season that we outlined in the summer of last year. While there were alterations and cancellations that were out of QUK’s control, we delivered the majority of our fixtures and successfully completed a BQC with separate leagues to crown Werewolves of London Firsts and Southampton Quidditch Club as our respective  Community and University Champions.

The plan for the 2022/23 season structure remains largely unchanged from the 2021/22 season just played. The new season will begin in early June, with members and member clubs needing to purchase their 22/23 membership from the 1 June 2022.

We have chosen not to specify venues or cities for any of our events yet as these are not all signed off. We have confirmed specific regions as far as we are able and we are in discussions with venues for the upcoming season already. Details will be released as soon as they are available. We will also continue carrying out COVID-19 passport checks for the 2022/23 season as a precautionary measure, as long as that service remains available.

Community

The first Community League fixture will take place on 2 July 2022 and most likely be held in the North. The second Community League fixture will take place on 13 August 2022 in the Midlands, and our third and final Community League fixture will be on the 17 September 2022 and will take place in London. This closes the community season.

University

As with 2021/22, the University League will be split regionally, with each region - Northern and Southern - seeing two fixtures ahead of BQC. The first fixtures will take place in November, with the Southern fixture being held on 5 November likely in the South West, and the Northern fixture will take place a week later on 12 November.

The second University League regional fixtures will take place in February, with the Southern fixture taking place on 11 February followed by the Northern fixture on 18 February. The top 12 teams across both regions will qualify for BQC.

British Quidditch Cup

The British Quidditch Cup will be a two day tournament again, with 24 teams competing across both days, in University and Community Flights. British Quidditch Cup 2023 will take place over the weekend of the 1 April - 2 April, we intend to once again hold this tournament in Sheffield. This follows the success of BQC 2022 where we fostered close ties with the venue, and received positive feedback from the quidditch community.

Development Cup

As always any teams that do not qualify for BQC will be eligible to attend the Development Cup, this includes teams that did not attend qualifying fixtures. Development Cup 2023 will be held after Easter as a one day tournament on 15 April. This tournament will most likely take place in Derby.

European Quidditch Cup

Dates are yet to be confirmed by Quidditch Europe. QuidditchUK will work to ensure EQC avoids any major events and we will update as soon as possible, if relevant.

Awards Evening

QuidditchUK intends to continue hosting our Annual Awards Evening, with the 2021/22 dinner coming up on the 11 June 2022. Next season we aim to hold the Awards Dinner, as well as the Summer Fantasy tournament and the 4 Nations WISE Shield over Friday 9 June - Sunday 11 June 2023. The venue for this remains unconfirmed.
